Summer School Tutoring

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Reading Decoding—By using the Orton-Gillingham approach, a structured, systematic, multi-sensory approach to reading, the student will learn to decode and encode words following a prescribed sequence.  Instruction will be tailored to meet the individual needs of each student, from basic sounds/symbol relationship to advanced word structure.  Fluency in reading will also be addressed during this period of instruction.

Reading Comprehension—Emphasis will be placed on basic comprehension skills from the concrete recall of details and sequencing of events, through the more abstract skills of predicting outcomes, drawing conclusions, making inferences and understanding mood and emotion.

Math—Basic computation, concepts, and problem solving strategies will be presented at your child’s level.  Use of manipulative objects, drills, and real life applications are an integral part of the learning process.

Written Expression—Framing Your Thoughts—This method is used to teach sentence structure to students by gradually building on the barebones sentence.  Through this multi-sensory approach, students learn to create increasingly complex sentences and well-organized paragraphs.
